Old Kingdom

The northern half of the continent of Ancelstierre is bordered to the north by the mountains of the Clayr, and to the south by The Wall. These lands are collectively called the Old Kingdom, and are the realms of magic and the power source of The Charter as well as the origin of the so-called Free Magic. All of the common magic-wielding races have homes within the Old Kingdom, including humans, elves, gnomes, and the Clayr. Unlike some popular theories in the New Kingdoms, however, not all of them get along well with one another.

Other magic-wielding races can be found beyond the mountains of the Clayr or sailing from the eastern and western archipelagoes. There are rumors of even stranger races that can be reached beyond the New Kingdom’s mountains, but few of those are comfortable in the Old Kingdom.

Old Kingdom trade has been a major source of power for the entire known world, powered by coastal traders that rarely travel more than 100 miles from the coast. In addition, human and Clayr traders are the only ones that are comfortable travelling more than about 100 miles south of the Wall.
