Player Character Classes

Character Classes are available wherever training is available for them. This means that certain classes are not available in certain areas (and will be noted in the descriptions of their local regions).

Alchemists: The alchemist is the master of the Minor Bloodline of essentia, using extracts to grant him great power, mutagens to enhance his form, and bombs to destroy his enemies.

Barbarians: Savage warmongers, trained in vicious martial techniques and subject to great rage.

Bard: The bard uses skill and spell alike to bolster his allies, confound his enemies, and build upon his fame.

Bloodline Mage: A person with a connection (innate or forged) with one of the nine great ones, who has learned the Magics of their patron through intense study.

Bloodline Sorcerer: Born with an innate connection to one of the nine great ones, Sorcerers are blessed with a number of strange, eldritch powers.

Cavalier: Mounted upon his mighty steed, the cavalier is a brave warrior, using his wit, charm, and strength at arms to rally his companions and achieve his goals.

Charter Mage: A devout follower of the Laws set down in the Charter, the Charter Mage can heal wounds, raise the dead, and call down the wrath of the Charter Stones.

Fighter: Brave and stalwart, the fighter is a master of all manner of arms and armor.

Free Mage: The Free Magics are those that have been suppressed by the Charter. In those places where the Charter is strong, they are weak, and where the Charter is weak, they tend to be strong. Oddly, /both/ magics are weak or unusable in the New Kingdom.

Inquisitor: Scourge of the Free Mage and hunter of horrors, the inquisitor roots out the enemies of his people with grim conviction and an array of Chartered blessings.

Laborer: The Laborer has spent his time doing physical work, strengthening his body and gaining the skills needed to be effective in cities or the country, with a focus that’s essentially divorced from the adventurer and primarily physical. Farmers, Blacksmiths, Stevedores, Cooks, and Dancers will often have several levels of Laborer.

Monk: A student of martial arts, the monk trains his body to be his greatest weapon and defense.

Oracle: Drawing upon the mysteries of the Charter, the Oracle channels the power of Belgaer, though at a terrible price.

Paladin: The paladin is the knight in shining armor, a devoted follower of law and good.

Professional: The professional has spent his time learning the secrets of some profession that doesn’t fit in other classes. While not as abtruse as that of a Bloodline mage, the professional is likely to be more physically robust than a Bloodline or Charter Mage, but less so than any other class.

Ranger: A tracker and hunter, the ranger is a creature of the wild and of tracking down his favored foes.

Rogue: The rogue is a thief and a scout, an opportunist capable of delivering brutal strikes against unwary foes.

Sorcerer: The spellcasting sorcerer is born with an innate knack for magic and has strange, eldritch powers.
